Adam Zampa, Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh delivered when their team needed them the most as Australia breathed life into their floundering World Cup campaign with a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka on Monday.

Deciding to bat first, openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera took Sri Lanka off to a flying start with a 125-run opening stand.

But then the match turned on its head. After Nisanka fell for 61, Perera followed him back to the pavilion for 78.

Looking on course for a 300-plus score, the Lankans faced a bizarre batting collapse which saw them lose last 9 wickets for just 52 runs.

Adam Zampa put his bad form in the tournament behind and managed to scalp 4 wickets to restrict Sri Lanka to 209.

Chasing which, the Aussies had a shaky start as they were reduced to 24/2.

Mitchell Marsh steadied the run chase with a solid 52 before Josh Inglis top-scored with 58.
Glenn Maxwell finished it off with an unbeaten 31 as the Aussies were finally off the mark in the World Cup.
