Watch ENG vs SL Highlights: Sri Lankan bowlers inflict another humiliating defeat on England in Bengaluru

England's campaign in the World Cup has taken yet another disheartening turn with a dismal batting performance. Jos Buttler's team, the defending champions, now face the looming threat of elimination following their fourth defeat in five games. The latest setback unfolded in Bengaluru, where England won the toss but found themselves confounded by Sri Lanka's impressive performance.

Despite a promising opening partnership, the English batsmen struggled immensely, and their wickets tumbled like a house of cards at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. A total of nine wickets fell in the space of just 99 runs, leaving England with a lowly total of 156 runs.

Unwanted records England made during their humiliating loss to Sri Lanka

The magnitude of their batting collapse left spectators and fans in disbelief, as the world watched the defending champions crumble under the pressure. England's aspirations of retaining their title were slipping away with each fallen wicket.

Sri Lanka also faced early setbacks, losing key players Kusal Perera and captain Kusal Mendis. However, Pathum Nissanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama showcased remarkable resilience by forging an unbeaten partnership worth 137 runs. This incredible stand saw Sri Lanka chase the target down inside 26 overs.

The defeat also meant that England are yet to beat Sri Lanka in an ODI World Cup encounter this century.
