"It will be a golden opportunity for us to perform well in front of the fans and become heroes" - Babar Azam on India vs Pakistan

Pakistan captain Babar Azam believes it's a golden opportunity for him and his players to become heroes if they manage to win the India vs Pakistan contest in Ahmedabad on Saturday. No Pakistani side has ever beaten India in an ODI World Cup match, with India currently leading 7-0 in the head-to-head record at 50-over World Cups.

While Babar agreed the India vs Pakistan contest is a huge occasion for players from both sides, he was quick to downplay the importance of the match for him to keep his captaincy.

Here's what Babar said during the pre-match press conference in Ahmedabad.

If his captaincy depended on outcome of India-Pak match

"I never worry, that because of this match, I will lose my captaincy. Whatever God has written for me – I will get. I will get what I deserve. I didn't get the captaincy because of one match and I will not lose it because of one match."

On his underwhelming records against India

"My World Cup till right now has not been as it should have been - but hopefully you will see some difference in the next matches. Against India, we only come face to face in the World Cup. There is a big gap. It's not that because of a bowler or... I say that I sometimes get out because of my mistake. I try to make as few mistakes as possible."

Pressure on playing India

"To be honest, the India v Pakistan match is a big game. It is a high-intensity game, so what I have told them (team) is this is the best opportunity, give your best, and keep doing what you have done well. We will try and go there and execute what we believe is our plan. The important thing is to execute the plan. Ahmedabad is a very big stadium and there will be a lot of fans, so it will be a golden opportunity for us to perform well in front of the fans and become heroes."

Not having Pakistan fans in the crowd

"There is no pressure because we have played before a lot of times in front of a big crowd...in MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) and all the big stadiums. Yes, there are also big stadiums around and yes, I think Ahmedabad will only be blue. So, if Pakistani fans were allowed, it would have been good for us To be honest, when we arrived in Hyderabad, I felt there were a lot of supporters for the Pakistani team."

Challenge of India vs Pakistan

"Challenge..look, the challenge is a Pakistan v India match. I guess fans everywhere have been waiting for this match. We are also very excited. I think both teams will try to do their best. Absolutely, we look at their top order (batting) and how to get them out and then we look at how to score runs against their bowlers. So what matters is that we play our best game on the particular day."

On Mohd Rizwan's Tweet in support of Gaza

"I think it's better if we stick to talking about cricket. You are taking the conversation in another direction."
