He has done it! Virat Kohli has made history in Mumbai! The King has gone past Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar to become the cricketer with most centuries in ODI cricket! Virat Kohli, who was tied with Sachin on 49 ODI tons, became the first cricketer ever to score 50 international centuries in 50-over cricket.

Kohli also broke Sachin Tendulkar's record for most runs in a single World Cup edition, going past Sachin's 673 runs he achieved in the 2003 edition. And Kohli, 20 years later, has breached that mark.

It was a very special moment for Kohli, who couldn't hold back his emotions after surpassing his idol at Sachin's home ground, the iconic Wankhede Stadium. In a gesture that defines Sachin Tendulkar's greatness, Virat Kohli, immediately after getting to his record landmark, bowed down to his idol, who was watching from the stands and applauding India's star batter.

Cricket veterans who may return for Cricket World Cup 2027

The Indian stalwart got to the landmark in just his 291st ODI game. In comparison, Sachin Tendulkar scored his 49th ODI hundred in his 462nd ODI. The 34-year-old is now the undisputed King in the ODI format.

Kohli eventually finished his innings with a 113-ball 117 and walked off to a standing ovation from the crowd, a knock that will forever stay etched in their memories, a knock where they witnessed the great man create an astonishing world record.
