South Africa decimate Sri Lanka, shatter records all in one innings in ODI World Cup opener in Delhi

If there is a stadium to be at on Saturday evening, it is Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, where records were smashed and created all in the span of one innings between South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Put in to bat first, Bavuma & Co were ruthless in their Wolrd Cup opener against the islanders, posting a thundering 428/5, smashing the earlier record of the highest total in a single innings in a World Cup.

Australia held the previous record of 417, hit in the 2015 World Cup versus Afghanistan.

But the Proteas' history-making didn't stop here.

Batting at number 4, Aiden Markram hit a 49-ball century, the fastest ever in a World Cup. Ireland's Kevin O'Brien had made a 50-ball ton in the 2011 World Cup against the English.

And for the first time in the history of the World Cup, one team also had 3 centurions. Apart from Markram, Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton de Kock also hit centuries against Sri Lanka.
