Shubman Gill resumes nets in Ahmedabad, could return for India vs Pakistan World Cup clash

The Indian cricket team received a massive boost as Shubman Gill, who's recovering after dengue, returned to the nets, sparking optimism about his potential inclusion in the World Cup game against Pakistan on Saturday.

Gill's absence due to illness in the first two matches against Australia and Afghanistan had raised concerns, but his presence in the nets suggests a promising comeback for the crucial match against arch-rivals Pakistan.

In preparation for Gill's return, the Indian team arranged a special net session for him before their arrival in Ahmedabad. Their left-arm throwdown specialist, Nuwan Seneviratne, was released a day prior to help Gill prepare.

Gill arrived at the Narendra Modi Stadium and engaged in a range of activities under the watchful eyes of the team doctor and specialists. The focus of his training was to counteract left-arm deliveries, keeping Shaheen Shah Afridi in mind.

Despite his recent health challenges, Gill appeared at ease during the session, facing both throwdowns and net bowlers. For someone whose platelet count had dropped to 70000 only a few days ago and was in hospital on Sunday night, Gill's recovery has been exemplary. Given how comfortable he looked in the nets, there's heightened anticipation for his potential return to the playing XI.

However, the coaching staff and medical team, led by Rahul Dravid, will closely monitor Gill's progress and evaluate his readiness based on his performance during Friday's session, especially considering the challenging weather conditions and the timing of the game.

Gill's remarkable recovery and determination have positioned him as a strong contender for the high-stakes clash against Pakistan, instilling hope in the Indian camp and fans alike.
