Shubman Gill's fight with dengue continues as he has been admitted into a hospital in Chennai. It was already confirmed that the opener will miss India vs Afghanistan ODI World Cup 2023 clash as well.

According to Cricbuzz, Gill's platelet count has been low for some time, which is the reason he did not accompany the team to Delhi for his side's 2nd World Cup game on Wednesday.

The medical team has been advised not to fly Gill while his platelet count was down. Apart from medical specialists at the hospital, BCCI's doctor Rizwan Khan is also attending Gill.

He is now racing against time to recover in time for the much-anticipated clash against Pakistan, scheduled in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

The report in Cricbuzz also says that Gill could be discharged and return to the hotel if his condition improves. If things take a positive turn with his health situation, he may fly directly to Ahmedabad to rejoin the squad.

Ishan Kishan is once again likely to be a part of the playing XI despite being out for a duck in the World Cup opener.

Physical recovery of dengue patients vary and it normally takes around 7-10 days to be up and match ready.

Gill is India's most prolific batter in ODIs and is the highest run-getter in the format in 2023. He has smashed 1230 runs at an average of over 72, including 5 hundreds and as many half-centuries. Gills strike rate of over 105 is also impressive.
