Rohit Sharma breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record with hundred against Afghanistan in World Cup

India's captain Rohit Sharma broke a slew of records as he smashed his seventh ton at the ODI World Cup against Afghanistan on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The skipper went all hammer and tongs against the Afghan bowlers as he notched up his 31st ODI century in just 63 balls. With this, Sharma surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to have the most number of tons for any Indian at the marquee tournament. His century is also the fastest ton by an Indian at the World Cup, surpassing Kapil Devi's 72-ball 100 in 83'.

Popularly known as the Hitman of Indian cricket, Sharma also broke Chris Gayle's record of 553 sixes in international cricket. While the West Indies powerhouse took 551 innings to score 553 sixes, Rohit Sharma went past him in just his 473rd innings.

Against Afghanistan in Delhi, Rohit also completed his 1000 runs in ODI World Cups. He equalled David Warner's record, who also took 19 inns to score 1000 WC runs.
