Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli: Can Indian stalwarts replicate 2011 Tendulkar effect in 2023 ODI World Cup?

Back in the 2011 ODI World Cup, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar wove magic on home soil. His exceptional performances and unwavering dedication ignited a fire that united the entire squad in the desire to secure the Cup for the Master.

A 22-year-old Virat Kohli had the perfect words for his idol back then - “He (Sachin) carried the burden of the nation for 21 years, it was time we carried him on our shoulders.”

Fast forward to today, twelve years later, and we find Kohli, approaching 35, and Rohit Sharma at 36, gazing at the twilight of their remarkable careers. These two Indian cricket stalwarts may not grace the field when the next World Cup arrives in four years.

This could very well be their ultimate chance, the final call for this dynamic duo in the ODI realm, to carve an enduring legacy in the format with a resounding World Cup victory. Such a triumph would etch their names alongside the great Sachin Tendulkar in the annals of Indian cricket history.

While the echoes of Tendulkar’s legendary tenure resonate deeply, Kohli and Rohit possess the potential to secure their rightful place beside him in the cricketing legacy. As in 2011, there remains one absolute certainty during this demanding journey – the unwavering support of an entire nation.
