ICC World Cup 2023 points table: India leapfrog to top spot after impressive win over Pakistan

After the thrilling 12th match of the World Cup 2023 that pitted India against Pakistan, the points table underwent a subtle yet significant shift in dynamics. India's magnificent performance in the contest propelled them to the pinnacle of the table, holding the coveted first position.

With a total of 6 points in their tally and a remarkable net run rate of +1.821, Rohit Sharma-led team pushed back New Zealand who were earlier occupying the first spot.

Their triumph over arch-rivals Pakistan, marked by a convincing victory with 7 wickets to spare within 31 overs, secured their third consecutive win in the World Cup 2023.

Despite this loss, the Pakistan team, led by the talented Babar Azam, emerged relatively unscathed and maintained its position at number 4 in the points table. Pakistan, with 4 points garnered from 2 wins in 3 matches, remains a formidable contender. Their net run rate, standing at -0.137, underlines their potential to rebound and pose a serious threat in the remainder of the tournament.

Meanwhile, New Zealand, which had held the top spot previously, now finds itself in second place on the points table. They have had a commendable run with 3 wins in as many matches. Their net run rate is at +1.604.

In third place, the South African team continues to impress with 2 wins under their belt, resulting in a total of 4 points from just 2 matches.
