Confirmed: Shubman Gill down with dengue, set to miss India vs Australia game | ODI World Cup 2023

Shubman Gill was being closely monitored by the BCCI medical team ever since he was down with fever but it has now been confirmed that he has tested positive for dengue.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Gill is set to miss India's ODI World Cup opening match vs Australia, scheduled on October 8 in Chennai.

'He is under the weather. The medical team is closely monitoring him. We are hoping he gets better soon,' the official update from BCCI had said.

Gill had missed India's training sessions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday but the team management was hoping for it to be nothing more than a flu, but that was not to be the case.

Physical recovery of dengue patients vary and it normally takes around 7-10 days to be up and match ready. If he doesn't recover quickly, Gill might miss more than 1 game for Team India. In case that happens, Ishan Kishan could be a possible replacement at the top.

Gill is India's most prolific batter in ODIs and is the highest run-getter in the format in 2023. He has smashed 1230 runs at an average of over 72, including 5 hundreds and as many half-centuries. Gills strike rate of over 105 is also impressive.
