Grace Geyoro Joins London City Lionesses in Record Transfer

London, Sep 5 (AP) London City Lionesses have announced their debut in the Women's Super League in style by securing a headline-grabbing signing. The club has acquired France midfielder Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain, marking a sensational entry into the league.

According to reports from Sky Sports and the BBC—the WSL's broadcast partners—the transfer fee is approximately 1.4 million pounds ($1.88 million), which could set a world record. This fee would surpass the $1.5 million that Orlando Pride paid to bring Mexico's Lizbeth Ovalle from Tigres UANL just last month.

Neither London City nor PSG Féminines have disclosed the exact figures of the deal.

This marks the fourth time in 2025 that the women's transfer record has been shattered. Previously, U.S. defender Naomi Girma moved from San Diego Wave to Chelsea for $1.1 million in January, followed by Canada's Olivia Smith transferring from Liverpool to Arsenal for $1.3 million in July.

London City Lionesses are owned by American businesswoman Michele Kang, a significant figure in women's sports. Kang, whose net worth is estimated by Forbes at $1.2 billion, also owns Lyon—PSG's traditional rivals—and the Washington Spirit. She leads Kynisca Sports International, a women-led, multi-team global sports organization.

Geyoro is the 16th and most substantial acquisition by London City Lionesses since they earned promotion to the WSL, positioning them as the league's first independent top-flight women's team. Other notable signings include England forward Nikita Parris, Jana Fernandez from Barcelona, and Danielle van de Donk from Lyon.

To date, Geyoro has earned 102 caps and netted 22 goals for the French national team.

The 2025-26 WSL season is set to kick off on Friday. London City Lionesses will face Arsenal in their opening match on Saturday.
