World Cup hero Lionel Messi 'not to retire' after Argentina clinch 3rd FIFA World Cup

The World saw the FIFA World Cup 2022 final as Lionel Messi's last hurrah but the 35-year-old has no plans to hang up his boots just yet.

After winning the World Cup in Qatar, Messi confirmed he would carry on playing for Argentina, at least a "few more" times. After getting his hands on the silverware, Messi told news agency Reuters that he wanted to close his career with that as it was one trophy that was missing and he could no longer ask for anything else.

"I was able to get the Copa America and now the World Cup that I had fought so hard for. I've got it at the end of my career. But I love football and I want to continue living a few more games being world champion," he added.

Messi had retired from international football in 2016 after Argentina's Copa America final defeat to Chile but soon came out of retirement to fulfil his World Cup dream.

In FIFA World Cup 2022, Messi scored 7 goals and provided 4 assists and proved to be the catalyst that helped Argentina lay hands on their first World Title since 1986.
