Former Brazil international Marcelo was left in tears after a tragic incident during a Copa Libertadores match in Buenos Aires, where his tackle on Argentinos Jrs defender Luciano Sanchez resulted in a horrific injury.

As Marcelo attempted to dribble past Sanchez, his leading foot caught the Argentine high on the shin with significant force. The impact caused Sanchez's leg to buckle underneath him at a shocking angle, leaving him in excruciating pain on the field.

Sanchez was immediately taken to a nearby medical clinic for treatment, and it was later confirmed that he had suffered a dislocated left knee, as stated by Argentinos in a post on messaging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

In response to the incident, Marcelo took to Instagram to express his regret and good wishes for Sanchez's recovery, stating, "Today I had a very difficult moment on the pitch. I unintentionally injured a fellow player. I want to wish him the best possible recovery. All the strength in the world."

Marcelo's Brazilian club, Fluminense FC, also showed their support, posting a message on social media, "Fluminense FC expresses its solidarity and wishes a speedy recovery to Argentinos Juniors defender Luciano Sanchez, who was injured in an accidental move in tonight's match."

The first leg of the round of 16 clash concluded in a 1-1 draw at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.
