Indian Olympic Champion Neeraj Chopra has withdrawn from the highly anticipated Paavo Nurmi Games 2023. The prestigious event, which has been a celebrated fixture in Turku, Finland since 1957, holds the esteemed title of a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event.
Neeraj gained significant recognition at last year's Finland meet, astonishing spectators with a national record-breaking throw of 89.30m, securing a well-deserved silver medal.&nbsp;
Just last month, Neeraj had withdrawn from the FBK Games in the Netherlands, citing a muscle strain sustained during training. This setback further prolonged his absence from the major competitive arena, spanning approximately eight months since his victorious performance at the Diamond League 2022 finals in Eugene, Oregon, back in September.
However, Neeraj did make a triumphant return to form on May 5th of this year at the Doha Diamond League, showcasing his exceptional talent and determination with a winning throw of 88.67m at the esteemed Qatar Sports Club.
Unfortunately, Neeraj's absence won't be limited to just the Paavo Nurmi Games; he will also miss the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships 2023. Fans will have to wait until June 27th for his next scheduled appearance at the Golden Spike Ostrava in the Czech Republic.
Despite these setbacks, Neeraj's sights are firmly set on two major upcoming events. He plans to compete in the highly anticipated World Athletics Championships in August, followed by the Asian Games in September, where he will aim to win another Gold medal.
Interestingly, Neeraj won't be the only high-profile athlete missing from the Paavo Nurmi Games. ICC and ECB have cleared off all the rumours regarding the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup venue and have confirmed that the tournament will be played in West Indies and the United States.

The 2024 T20 Men's T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in the Caribbean islands and the United States won't be shifted to the United Kingdom, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Saturday.
"There is absolutely no truth to reports that the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 will be moved from the West Indies and the USA," said an ECB spokesperson. "Since the event is organized by the ICC, their statement must be taken as binding and conclusive."
"Venue inspections have recently been concluded in both host territories, and planning for the event in June 2024 is in full swing," said the ICC spokesperson.
The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will be the ICC's largest-ever event, featuring 20 teams and 55 matches in total.&nbsp;

International referee Jagbir Singh, who is one of the 125 potential witnesses, in the wrestlers' sexual assault case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has made serious allegations against the Wrestling Federation of India chief in some other incidents.&nbsp; While speaking to NDTV, Jagbir&nbsp;said during a dinner program of a competition in Phuket, Thailand he saw Brij Bhushan's 'horrifying side' The referee accused him of molesting wrestlers, touching women wrestlers inappropriately forcefully hugging them and offering them training gear while he was inebriated.&nbsp; His barbarity was unbearable, the referee said.&nbsp; He also revealed that the female wrestlers left the dinner and went away.&nbsp; He further alleged that the former WFI chief had grabbed a woman wrestler in a place one should not touch a woman in March last year.&nbsp; When he was asked about remaining silent for so long, Singh said, 'When the protector himself becomes the assaulter there's nowhere to go' As per him, the women and others feared for their careers as he was the WFI chief and had a massive influence.&nbsp;

The wrestler has accused the Kaiserganj MP of sexually harassing her at the WFI office in one of the FIRs.&nbsp; She told Indian Express that when she had asked the police if he was present there, they denied and went on to add, 'Just going to the spot and repeating what had happened to the police was tough. After knowing he was there, I felt scared.&nbsp; Brij Bhushan spoke to the reporters and told them that he was present at his residence, 'sleeping inside' and that nobody came to meet him.&nbsp;

A dominant India struck two quick first-half goals to beat lower-ranked Mongolia 2-0 and begin their Intercontinental Cup campaign on a winning note on Friday.
Sahal Abdul Samad and Lallianzuala Chhangte scored in the 2nd and 14th minute respectively as the 101st-ranked Indians emerged victorious over their opponents placed 183rd in the world, at the Kalinga Stadium in hot and humid conditions.
India, the 2018 edition champions, dominated the match for the most part, attacking and creating chances while the Mongolians were left to defend their citadel. The home side had 65 per cent possession in the match.
The only worrying part for head coach Igor Stimac was the inability of his attackers to find the opposition net on numerous occasions in the second half.
Captain and talisman Chhetri had a relatively quiet day as he played deeper than usual and was replaced by Rahim Ali in the 71st minute. Lalengmawia Ralte also was not up to the mark and he was replaced by Jeakson Singh.
India made a fast start and were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes with strikes from Sahal and Chhangte.
Midfielder Anirudh Thapa found himself in the clear on the right flank in the second minute and he pulled one back into the middle of the penalty box. The Mongolian keeper got a hand to it but Sahal was there to fire home with a low left-footer.
There was a brief period when the Mongolians tried to settle down, keeping the ball to themselves but the Blue Tigers were on the prowl and scored soon from a corner.
Thapa was involved yet again as his 14th-minute corner and Sandesh Jhinghan's header rebounded off a Mongolian defender on the goal-line and Chhangte was in hand to poke the ball into the net.
Three minutes later, Udanta Singh got the ball from captain Chhetri inside the Mongolian box and he appeared to have been tripped by a defender. The Indians shouted for a penalty but the referee had none of it.
Mongolia also had their own penalty claim in the 37th minute when their midfielder Baljinnyam Batmunkh was at the receiving end of a sliding tackle from behind by Anwar Ali but the referee turned down the visiting side's claim.
India were clearly the dominant side in the first half with 53 per cent possession and seven shots at opposition goal of which three were on target.
The home side dominance continued in the second half but they found it hard to break down the Mongolian defence. The Mongolian defence did better in the second 45 minutes than the first as they brought more men to deny the Indians from scoring.
Udanta had a clear run inside the Mongolian box in the 55th minute after a Sahal flick but he failed to keep his shot down. Udanta and Sahal were replaced by Rohit Kumar and Naorem Mahesh at the hour mark in search of goals.
The introduction of fresh legs led to a flurry of shots at the Mongolian goal, though without success. Rohit nearly scored in the 83rd minute but his header off a Thapa corner got the fingertips of the Mongoian goalkeeper and ricocheted off the woodwork.
Just before the start of the match, both sides observed a minute's silence to pay respect to the victims of the Odisha train tragedy.
India play Vanuatu in their second round-robin league match on Monday.

Shubman Gill's wicket in the second innings caused a huge controversy on the fourth day of the World Test Championship final.
Chasing a mammoth 444, India were off to a fantastic start at 41/0 after just 7 overs.
However, a Scott Boland delivery kicked up from a length to take the shoulder of Shubman Gill's bat.&nbsp;
Cameron Green, who had taken a blinder in the first innings to send Ajinkya Rahane back, dived to his left and seemed to have taken another sensational catch just millimetres above the ground.
However, Gill wasn't sure and when the third umpire was asked to check, replays were inconclusive, with many wondering if the ball had just kissed the grass before Green snaffled it.
Third umpire Richard Kettleborough though adjudged it to be a fair catch after going through multiple replays, stating Green's fingers were underneath the ball when he completed the take.&nbsp;
The third umpire's decision didn't go down too well with the Indian fans, who were fuming why the benefit of the doubt didn't go to the batter.&nbsp;
Even captain Rohit Sharma couldn't quite hide his frustration when the OUT decision flashed on the big screen, much to the disappointment of 90% of the fans at the ground.

Indian Olympic medallist Sakshi Malik has alleged that the minor complainant in the sexual harassment case against former WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh changed her statement under pressure.
"There's huge pressure on us to compromise," she said during an interview with NDTV, accusing Brij Bhushan of getting his men to call and threaten the complainants.
Protesting wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik said that the 'minor' wrestler's father is going through depression because of the pressure he has been put under, following which he also withdrew the complaint.
With the Asian Games coming up, Sakshi Malik has told the media that they won't be participating in the games if Brij Bhushan isn't arrested by then.

According to a PTI report, Phogat was accompanied by women constables and they were at Singh's residence for half an hour.

According to a PTI report, Phogat was accompanied by women constables and they were at Singh's residence for half an hour.

Delhi Police on Friday took wrestler Sangeeta Phogat to outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's official residence to recreate the sequence of events that led to the sexual harassment of which he has been accused.
According to sources, Phogat was accompanied by women constables.
"At 1.30 pm women officers took Sangeeta Phogat to Brij Bhushan's official residence in Delhi. They were there for half an hour. They asked her to recreate the scene and recall the places where she faced harassment," sources said.
The Delhi Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing sexual harassment allegations against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP MP from Kaiserganj, Uttar Pradesh is likely to submit in the court its investigation report in the two cases registered against him by next week, officials said on Wednesday.
As part of its investigation, the SIT has questioned more than 180 people, the Delhi Police officials said.
Top wrestlers of the country, including Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat and Olympic medallists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia, had been protesting against Singh and demanding his arrest for allegedly sexually harassing seven female grapplers, including a minor.
The protesting wrestlers on Wednesday met Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and agreed to suspend their agitation till June 15 after he assured them that a charge sheet against Singh will be filed by then and WFI elections will be held by the end of the month.
The Delhi Police has filed two FIRs against Singh.&nbsp;
