Spain’s Sergio Busquets retires from international football

Spain’s star footballer Sergio Busquets, who helped the country win the 2010 FIFA World Cup and 2012 UEFA European Championships, has retired from international football.

The 34-year-old ended his career with the national side after 143 appearances. Only Sergio Ramos, with 180 caps, and Iker Casillas, with 167 caps, have played more games for 'La Roja'

Busquets who announced his retirement news in an Instagram post shared an emotional video of his spectacular journey. In his caption, he wrote, ’It has been an honour to represent my country at the highest level, to be a world and European champion, to be captain and play so many games, with greater or less success but always giving it my all

After his team got chucked out of the World Cup, Busquets, the Spanish side captain at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, decided to end his international career. This, however, marks an end to an era as the Barcelona star was the only remaining World Cup-winning team member from South Africa in 2010 who was still playing for his country.
