Premier League: Arsenal attain top spot; ruthless Rashford lifts Manchester United

Arsenal attained the top spot on the Premier League leaderboard as the Gunners thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-0 at the Emirates on Sunday night.

Mikel Arteta's men started superbly and took the lead in the 5th minute as Gabriel Martinelli converted a cross from Bukayo Saka.

However, Arsenal suffered a major setback in the mid of the first half after Saka limped off the field.

But Saka’s replacement Reiss Nelson ensured the Gunners' surge with a brace in the second half. Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard also scored a goal each to complete a 5-0 rout of Nottingham Forest.

With the win, Arsenal are now two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City on the Premier League points table.

Manchester United vs West Ham

In the second match, Marcus Rashford's 100th goal for Manchester United in all competitions helped Erik ten Hag's men beat West Ham United 1-0 at the Old Trafford.

After a slow start, The Red Devils up their game in the 38th minute when Rashford netted a powerful header to give United a 1-0 lead. Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who was making just his third league start of the season, wasted a golden opportunity to double United's lead at the start of the second half.

West Ham, meanwhile, looked a different side in the second half as they piled up more pressure on United's post. But David de Gea made tremendous saves to deny West Ham any chance to stage a comeback.

After the win, Manchester United are at the 5th spot, three points behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspurs and one point adrift 4th placed Newcastle United.
