Nations League: Giroud makes history; de Bruyne inspires Belgium to victory

France emerged victorious against Austria in their Uefa Nations League clash on Thursday thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe.

After Kylian Mbappé broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a composed finish, Giroud etched his name in the history books as he became the oldest player to score a goal for France when he sealed the 2-0 win with a header in the 65th minute.

The 35-year-old is also now just two goals shy of beating Thiery Henry's record of most goals scored for Les Bleus.

Belgium beat Wales 2-1 as Kevin De Bruyne scored and assisted to keep his team in contention for the Nations League's Final Four next June.

The Netherlands won 2-0 in Poland to remain unbeaten under veteran manager Louis Van Gaal. Cody Gakpo scored early and Steven Bergwijn added a second to secure the win for the Oranje.
