Former Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia opened up on FIFA's decision to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and called it a 'very harsh' call.
However, he also saw it as an opportunity to get the country's system right. 'It's very important that all the stakeholders, the federation and the state associations to come together and get the system right and everybody work for the betterment of Indian football,' he added.
Former star Indian footballer Shabbir Ali also saw the decision as an unfortunate one and said that it was a setback for Indian football. He though feels that the U-17 Women's World Cup would still be held in India. 'I am optimistic that things will fall in place and India won't be robbed off the showpiece event, added the Dhyan Chand Awardee.
Despite FIFA suspending AIFF with immediate effect, football's governing body in its statement said that it was hopeful of a positive outcome and the ban will be lifted if the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF&rsquo;s daily affairs.

Manchester United have completed their first signing of the season after bringing in left-back Dutch football player Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.
Malacia cost the United around £13m plus add-ons and he has signed a 4-year deal with the North West-England side.
Malacia joined Feyenoord in 2008 at the age of nine and stayed at the club since then. 
The 22-year-old Dutch made 50 appearances in all competitions during the 2021-22 season for Feyenoord. Malacia had also been a part of the Netherlands' national side five times. 
He is the first signing of the United under new manager Erik ten Hag. 
United will start their Premier League campaign at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 7.

After FIFA banned the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for &lsquo;undue influence from third parties&rsquo;, the Supreme Court on Wednesday told the government to work on lifting the suspension imposed by football's governing body.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, said that the government has already held talks with FIFA following the suspension.
The Supreme Court also stated that India should have the benefit of hosting the FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup and asked the Centre to take pro active role to hold the event as scheduled in October. If the ban stays, India will be stripped of the hosting rights.
The centre told the court that it had held two meetings with FIFA on Tuesday after it suspended the Indian federation. The matter has been adjourned until Monday, August 22.
This is in fact, the first time that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been banned by FIFA in its 85-year-old history.

Football's governing body FIFA, suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on August 15 due to undue influence from third parties, which according to FIFA is a &ldquo;serious violation of the FIFA Statutes&rdquo;. This not only dented India's chances of hosting the U17 Women's World Cup in October but India's national teams will not be able to play international fixtures until the suspension is lifted.
But what caused this violation?
The conflict began when former chief Praful Patel stayed in office beyond his term despite completing his three terms and 12 years as AIFF president in December 2020.
The Supreme Court of India ruled it invalid and relieved Praful Patel and his executive committee from their responsibilities. The SC then appointed a Committee of Administrators (CoA) to oversee the functioning of the AIFF it had selected in May 2022. It was also given the responsibility to draft the constitution for the same body.
On July 16, 2022, CoA submitted the final draft constitution of the AIFF to the Supreme Court for its approval. However, the state units of the AIFF expressed their unhappiness with several provisions in the final draft constitution.
On August 3, the Supreme Court directed the holding of elections to the executive committee of the AIFF by forming an Electoral College made up of 36 representatives of state football associations and 36 eminent former football players.
FIFA though threatened to suspend the AIFF and strip off its rights to host the Women&rsquo;s U-17 World Cup in October due to a third-party &ldquo;influence.&rdquo; But the CoA reassured FIFA after the threat that it was on course to set the AIFF in order.
On August 15, FIFA informed the Indian sports ministry that it remained firm in its opposition to individual members&rsquo; inclusion in the electoral college for the upcoming AIFF elections.
Football's governing body finally took the hard call and suspended AIFF a day later. However, FIFA also stated that the suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee was repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF&rsquo;s daily affairs.
