Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne suffers hamstring injury, likely to miss rest of the year

In a massive blow to Manchester City, their captain Kevin de Bruyne is likely to be sidelined for the next 4 months after he suffered a hamstring injury in their opening Premier League game against Burnley on August 12.

Just 36 minutes into the match, de Bruyne limped off the pitch, a game which the Cityzens won 3-0.

The 32-year-old had suffered a similar injury in the Champions League final just over two months ago as City beat Inter Milan to become European champions for the first time.

Speaking ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla, Man City manager Pep Guardiola termed the injury as 'serious'.

'We have to decide surgery or not. Surgery, I think will be three or four months out,' Guardiola added.

He still has the likes of Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez to call upon to deputise, but said De Bruyne's skill set is "irreplaceable".
