Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips joins West Ham on loan, likely to make his debut against Bournemouth

Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips joins West Ham on loan, likely to make his debut against Bournemouth

Premier League side West Ham United have signed fellow Premier League side Manchester City's defensive midfielder, Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan deal. The deal will see the Englishman ply his trade from Manchester to London for the remaining half of the season as the David Moyes-coached side has been looking for a replacement and the void left by superstar Declan Rice's departure to London rivals Arsenal in the summer transfer window of 2023.

Phillips has made just 31 appearances for City since a £45m transfer from Leeds in July 2022 and Pep Guardiola admitted in December he cannot envisage the England midfielder in his team.

Crystal Palace and Newcastle also made contact with City about a deal this month, while Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus were also understood to be interested.

Kalvin Phillips' loan deal does include a buy option for the West Ham side but that will depend on the way Kalvin performs as he had a troublesome past few years where he had even less than limited opportunities during his time at Pep Guardiola's side. The deal is yet subject to a medical, which will be taking place on Wednesday and if everything goes fine, the Englishman can be seen making his debut against Bournemouth in the Premier League fixture on February 2

Phillips has not managed a single start in the Premier League this season having started just twice last term.
