Manchester City charged by Premier League for numerous breaches of financial rules

The English Premier League has charged reigning champions Manchester City with more than 100 breaches of financial regulations following a four-year investigation.

City, who won the EPL title 6 times in the last 11 years, are accused of hiding accurate financial reports.

In 2020, City had a 2-year ban from European competitions overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after UEFA ruled that City committed "serious breaches" of Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016.

The Premier League issued a statement, claiming City breached rules requiring them to provide "accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club's financial position".

While City are expected to contest the charges, possible sanctions include points deductions if breaches are proved.
