'I don't think I'll make it for 2026': Messi confirms Qatar 2022 final will be his last World Cup game

One more game to go and Lionel Messi might just join the likes of Pele, Diego Maradona. It is just another 90 minutes away. His last dance against either France or Morocco, coming Sunday.

The 35-year-old has been breaking or equalising records with each game in Qatar. La Pulga alongside 22-year-old Alvarez inspired La Albiceleste from the ruins of their Saudi Arabia humiliation to the finals of the football's biggest gala.

While the South American giants will look to win the third World Cup in their 6th final, Messi would look to leave an indelible mark and pick the elusive trophy in what he has said is his last World Cup game. After his team entered the final, Argentine midfielder Rodrigo de Paul said, 'we play for the shirt, but we also play for Messi'.

When asked about Sunday's game being his last at World Cup by an Argentine sports newspaper, Ole, Lionel Messi who by the 2026 FIFA World Cup will turn 39 said, 'there's a lot of years ahead for the next one and I don't think I'll make it. And to finish it this way is the best.'

It will be the perfect sendoff for the football hero, if Argentina beat France or Morocco, whichever team reaches the final next, on Sunday.
