FIFA World Cup final: France trio Coman, Tchouameni & Kolo Muani racially abused after penalty misses

Reports in the British media suggest that 3 France players received racial abuse on social media after Sunday's World Cup final defeat to Argentina.

Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni were subjected to vile messages on their accounts, after missing penalties in the shoot-out. While Kolo Muani also received hate messages after missing a chance to win the game in extra time

France were beaten 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out after Coman's effort was saved by Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, while Tchouameni's shot went wide.

Coman's club Bayern Munich also posted a message of support for the 26-year-old winger and said Racism has no place in sport or society. 'The FC Bayern family is behind you, King,' the Tweet further read.

The abuse received by the French players is similar to what occurred following England's loss to Italy on penalties in the Euro 2020 final last year.

After that game Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, who all missed penalties, received racist abuse online.

The abusive posts were condemned by Meta, which owns Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, and the company further clarified that the vile racist messages had been removed.
