FIFA World Cup: Denmark's kit sponsor tones down logo to protest against Qatar, issues statement

Denmark's kit supplier Hummel has toned down its logo on the jerseys which the national side will don during the FIFA World Cup 2022. The move came as protest against Qatar's human rights record.

Hummel's red logo is barely visible on the team jersey. The kit supplier wrote in a post on Instagram that they don't wish to be visible during a tournament that has cost thousands of people their lives. It was a reference to reports of deaths and injuries among migrant workers and harsh working conditions.

"We support the Danish national team all the way, but that isn't the same as supporting Qatar as a host nation," the statement added.

Apart from the traditional red jersey, the grey and black jersey was also presented with a barely visible logo.

Apart from that, Denmark's training jerseys will carry "critical messages", with two sponsors agreeing to have their logos replaced.
