FIFA World Cup 2022: Surprising statistics suggest Portugal will be crowned World Champions this year!

Portugal have never won the FIFA World Cup so far and will be hoping that their talisman Ronaldo picks up form in the latter stages of the tournament and brings the country their maiden World Cup triumph.

FIFA World Cup 2022: Surprising statistics suggest Portugal will be crowned World Champions this year!

Cristiano Ronaldo, at 37, might just get lucky, and help the Portugal football team win their first-ever World Cup trophy this time around!

While there is no doubt about CR7's prowess, lucky yes as statistics suggest so, a spellbinding stat that would make an ardent fan believe that the World Cup trophy this year will be lifted by the Navigators.

For the past 3 World Cups, 2010, 2014, and 2018, the top scorer of UEFA Euros has gone on to win the subsequent World Cup tournament as well.

And evidently so!
David Villa was the top scorer in the 2008 Euros, he went on to win the 2010 World Cup with Spain.

The second time it happened, when Mario Goetze was the top goal-scorer in Euro 2012 and the German striker went on to lift the coveted World Cup with Germany in 2014. And the course did not change in 2018 too, when Les Bleus forward Antoine Griezmann got his hands on the 2018 World Cup trophy after being named the top-scorer of the 2016 Euros.

The 2020 Euros, however, had a twist! Cristiano Ronaldo was the top scorer but he shared the golden boot with Czech Republic's Patrik Schick. As fate might have it, the Czech Republic star would not get a chance to participate in this edition of the quadrennial event since his side failed to qualify for the World Cup. So, the trend might not die just this year and fortune might just favour the mighty Portuguese star.

Portugal are placed in Group H alongside Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea and will be looking forward to going through to the knockout stages without any discomfort.
