In a letter to all the countries taking part in the FIFA World Cup 2022 taking place in Qatar, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and secretary general Fatma Samoura have requested the nations to "let football take centre stage" instead of focusing on Human Rights issues.

The letter which was written to all the 32 playing teams also added that "FIFA tries to respect all opinions and beliefs, without handing out moral lessons".

Qatar, the host nation for this year's World Cup has been criticised for its treatment of migrant workers and for its anti-LGBTQ laws. According to a report which was denied by the authorities in Qatar, 6,500 migrant workers had died in Qatar since it was awarded the World Cup ten years ago.
