FIFA World Cup 2022: England & USA advance to last-16 after beating Wales & Iran respectively

While England thumped Wales 3-0, the USA defeated Iran 1-0 in their last Group B games to seal their last-16 spot.

England and USA made it to the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup 2022 after registering a win in their respective final group games. While England thumped Wales 3-0, the USA defeated Iran 1-0 in their last Group B games to seal their last-16 spot.

Marcus Rashford & Phil Foden ensured the dominant victory over the meek Dragons. While Rashford broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, Phil Foden charged to find another goal just in the next minute making it a dominant 2-0 quickly. In the 68th minute, the Manchester United striker struck again to make it a secure 3-0 lead over the home nation rivals, eliminating them for this edition of the World Cup. The Three Lions who finished in the top spot after all Group B games will now face Group A runners-up Senegal on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a single goal from Cristian Pulisic in the 38th minute was sufficient for the Americans to chuck the Iranians out of the ongoing World Cup. Pulisic who scored by turning in Sergo Dest's header also hurt himself in the process and suffered an abdominal injury. He was replaced at half-time. The win 1-0 win however helped them finish in the 2nd place in the table. They will now face the Netherlands on Sunday in their last-16 game.
