FIFA World Cup 2022: Cameroon football chief Samuel Eto'o apologises for violent altercation

After an ugly altercation at the FIFA World Cup 2022, Cameroon football federation president and former star player Samuel Eto'o issued an apology on Tuesday.

'I had a violent altercation with a person who was probably an Algerian supporter,' Eto'o wrote in a statement wherein he apologised for losing his 'temper and reacting'

A viral footage circulating on social media shows Eto'o kicking a man to the ground outside near Stadium 974 after Brazil beat South Korea 4-1. He was first involved in a verbal spat with a football fan who is an Algerian social media personality Said Mamouni.

Mamouni who revealed that Eto'o became violent after being asked about bribing the referee of the controversial World Cup qualifying game between Cameroon and Algeria has filed a complaint against Eto'o at a Qatari police station.

Eto'o in his response had also said that he has been the target of insults and allegations of cheating without any evidence.

Cameroon won the second leg 2-1 in the final moments of the match and qualified for the World Cup on the away goals rule.

Algeria's soccer federation filed a complaint with FIFA, soccer's governing body, demanding a replay of the match because of what it deemed were referring errors made by Gassama. FIFA dismissed the complaint.
