Europa League: Cristiano Ronaldo on target in Manchester United’s victory over Sheriff Tiraspol

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first-ever Europa League goal as Manchester United completed a comfortable 2-0 victory against Moldovian opponents Sheriff Tiraspol.

Erik ten Hag’s men, who had lost their opening day encounter against Real Sociedad, climbed up to the second spot after claiming all three points.

It was Jadon Sancho who opened the scoring for the Red Devils, capping off a great team move with an excellent finish in the 17th minute. Sancho, who was left out of the England squad that was announced earlier in the day, made sure he reminded manager Gareth Southgate of his qualities with another good display.

Cristiano Ronaldo doubled United’s lead from the penalty spot before half-time after Diogo Dalot was deemed to be fouled by Patrick Kpozo. Ronaldo slotted home with ease to take his career club goals tally to 699.

Ronaldo’s goal also ended an 8-match barren run that started at the end of last season.
Manchester United will next face city rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on October 2.
