Diego Maradona's medical personnel to face public trial for criminal negligence

Eight medical personnel involved in the care of late Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona will face a public trial for criminal negligence.

As per the Argentinian judge's ruling, brain surgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov are among those accused of failing to take proper care of Maradona when he was recovering from surgery.

1986 world cup hero Maradona died at the age of 60 on November 25 two years ago due to a cardio-respiratory arrest while he was recovering from surgery for a blood clot on his brain.

The autopsy two years back had claimed that the Argentinian legend died of natural causes but after pressure from Maradona's family, the judiciary started investigating his death.

According to the prosecutors, the medical staff 'were the protagonists of an unprecedented, totally deficient and reckless hospitalisation at home'.

The accused, if found guilty, risk sentences up to 25 years in prison.
