FISU World University Squash Championship 2024 in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 29 (PTI) Players from over 20 nations are set to compete in the FISU World University Championship Squash, which will take place next year from August 3-9. The tournament venue will be the Somaiya Vidyavihar University, organized in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and under the direction of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). A release conveyed these details.

FISU serves as the global governing entity responsible for events like the World University Games and World University Championships. The statement by SVU highlighted, "Somaiya Vidyavihar University has significantly contributed to India's presence at FISU tournaments, endorsing athletes and delegations via AIU-led initiatives". Notably, SVU has organized the All India Inter-University Squash Championship over the past three years.

In 2024, four of the six Indian representatives at the FISU World University Championship Squash in Johannesburg were SVU students, earning bronze in both individual and team events.” Samir Somaiya, chancellor of SVU, expressed, "This event will offer our students a chance to witness elite competition, participate as volunteers in a global event, and find motivation to push their own boundaries."
