Divya Bhardwaj Upsets Pooja Ingale, Advances in Fenesta Tennis

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) - In a surprising turn of events at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship, qualifier Divya Bhardwaj delivered an impressive performance to defeat third seed Pooja Ingale and advance to the women's singles second round on a rain-disrupted Tuesday.

Divya, from Maharashtra, overcame Pooja Ingale with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The match began with great intensity, with both players locked at 3-3 in the first set before Divya took command by winning three successive games. The second set unfolded similarly, as both players were once again tied at 3-3. However, Divya broke Pooja's serve to gain a 5-3 advantage. Although Pooja managed to hold her subsequent serve with exceptional net play, Divya prevailed to take her sixth game and progress in the tournament.

Simultaneously, second seed Akanksha Nitture showcased her prowess in her first-round match, securing a decisive victory over Telangana's Paavanii Paathak with a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win. Akanksha demonstrated her superior baseline play and consistently broke her opponent’s serve, leading to a commanding triumph.

Due to the weather conditions, only two matches concluded on Tuesday.
