Epic Test Cricket Clashes: India vs England and More

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) After 25 enthralling days of Test cricket, India and England ended the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy tied at 2-2, adding another memorable chapter to cricket's rich history.

It's not the first instance of Test cricket delivering edge-of-the-seat thrillers that leave fans longing for more even after a series stretching beyond a month.

Here are a few unforgettable clashes from the past decade and a half that showcased the highs and lows intrinsic to Test cricket.

India vs Australia, 2020-21
Arguably one of the greatest series ever, India overcame numerous obstacles, including key player injuries, to secure a 2-1 triumph over Australia.

From a dismal 36/9 in Adelaide to the miraculous Gabba victory, India, led by interim captain Ajinkya Rahane, turned the tables on the unsuspecting Aussies in their own backyard.

India vs Sri Lanka, 2015
This series marked the beginning of India's dominant run in Test cricket under new captain Virat Kohli. Despite a setback at Galle, where Sri Lanka triumphed by 63 runs, India adopted Kohli's indomitable spirit to claim victories in Colombo, winning by 278 and 117 runs, and securing the series 2-1.

India vs South Africa 2010-11
This was the last series where the legendary trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman made a collective impact.

Following an innings-and-25-run loss at Centurion, India rebounded with an 85-run victory in Durban, where Laxman scored a crucial 96 against Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel. The series culminated with a tense draw at Cape Town, thanks to gritty batting from Gautam Gambhir, Dravid, Tendulkar, and Laxman.

India vs England, 2011-12
After India's nine-wicket win at Ahmedabad, England turned the series around through Kevin Pietersen's brilliant hundred in Mumbai, leading to a 10-wicket win. They followed it up with a seven-wicket victory at Eden Gardens before drawing the final Test in Nagpur to seal the series 2-1. Joe Root made his debut in this series.

Australia vs South Africa, 2016-17
This series saw a clash of modern-day pacers, with South Africa's Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander outshining Australia's Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. South Africa secured wins in Perth and Hobart before Australia won the day-night Test in Adelaide, marking their first home series loss since 2008.

New Zealand vs Pakistan 2017-18
In Abu Dhabi, predictions of a spin-dominated series favored Pakistan. However, New Zealand edged a narrow four-run victory in the first Test. Pakistan leveled with a win in Dubai, but NZ's off-spinner William Somerville emerged as an unlikely hero in Abu Dhabi, guiding the Kiwis to a 2-1 series win with his seven-wicket haul.

India vs England 2021-22
Held behind closed doors during the COVID-19 pandemic, this series was a punch-for-punch battle.

After a draw in Nottingham, India's 151-run win at Lord's was followed by England's innings victory at Leeds. India claimed the fourth Test at the Oval, taking a 2-1 lead before the tour was halted due to COVID-19 cases. The series resumed in July 2022 with England chasing down 378 at Birmingham, resulting in a 2-2 draw, reminiscent of the latest encounter.
