England Opts to Bowl First Against South Africa at Lord's

London, Sep 4 (AP) England won the toss, which was delayed, and chose to bowl first against South Africa at Lord's in the second one-day international of the three-match series on Thursday.

South Africa is working to secure the series victory after triumphing in the first ODI by seven wickets on Tuesday, where they dismissed England for just 131 runs.

In a bid to improve their performance, England made a change to their lineup by dropping fast bowler Sonny Baker. Baker had a challenging debut in the first ODI at Headingley, recording figures of 0-76 from seven overs and scoring a duck with the bat. Saqib Mahmood replaced him in the squad.

The Proteas, on their return to the historic Lord's venue 2 1/2 months after defeating Australia there in the World Test Championship, made two changes to their team. Matt Breetzke was brought into the middle order as a replacement for Tony de Zorzi, who is out with a hamstring injury, while Senuran Muthusamy came in for Wiaan Mulder, who missed out due to illness. Notably, Kagiso Rabada remained absent from the lineup due to an ankle injury.

Play was set to commence at 1:15 p.m. local time (1215 GMT), which was a 15-minute delay from the scheduled start due to morning rain.

Lineups:

England: Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (captain), Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood.

South Africa: Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickleton, Temba Bavuma, Matt Breetzke, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Senuran Muthusamy, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi.
