The Maharashtra cabinet has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Divya Deshmukh, who has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the youngest chess player to clinch the Women's Chess World Cup. This commendation was formally endorsed by the cabinet on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the helm, alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with other ministers.

At just 19 years old, Divya Deshmukh hails from Nagpur and emerged victorious in the Women's World Cup on Monday. She triumphed over the experienced Koneru Humpy during the tie-breaker of an all-Indian final held in Batumi, Georgia.

In light of her exceptional accomplishment, CM Fadnavis announced on Monday that the Maharashtra government has plans to honor the newly anointed Grandmaster. "It's a moment of immense joy that a girl from Nagpur and Maharashtra, Divya Deshmukh, has not only won the Women's World Cup but has also claimed the Grandmaster title. She is the youngest chess player to secure this esteemed international title," he stated.

Fadnavis, via a statement released on Monday, expressed that Divya Deshmukh has indelibly etched Maharashtra's name in golden letters on the global chess stage.

He also noted the considerable pride in having both finalists of the World Cup hailing from India, extending his congratulations to Humpy as well.
