Dhruv Jurel Anticipates Key Role in Fifth Test Against England

New Delhi, Jul 31 (PTI): Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel is keen to seize the opportunity to represent India in the fifth Test against England, stepping in for the injured vice-captain, Rishabh Pant. Jurel, 24, acknowledges the importance of delivering strong performances in international conditions, as such achievements significantly elevate a player's reputation.

Jurel has been India’s wicketkeeper in the last two Test matches at Lord’s and Manchester while Pant recuperated from injuries. Now, he is set to take on the role full-time as India aims to balance the series at 2-2 in this crucial final game.

"Overcoming challenges on foreign soil is always special. Outstanding performances overseas garner a lot of appreciation, and I'm eager to express myself on this stage," shared Jurel in a BCCI video.

The upcoming match holds great significance for the team, and Jurel is enthusiastic about contributing to a victory. Having debuted in Tests against England last year at Rajkot, he has since accumulated 202 runs in four matches, maintaining an average of 40.40, with one half-century.

An advocate of team spirit, Jurel emphasized, "A true team player does whatever is necessary for a win, regardless of playing status." He fondly recalled making a significant impact during a five-wicket win alongside Shubman Gill against England in Ranchi.

Reflecting on playing at Lord’s, Jurel mentioned, "Competing at Lord’s has been a childhood dream of mine. The experience was phenomenal." Despite the setback of Pant’s injuries, Jurel views joining the field as a dream come true, especially at such an iconic venue.

Always seeking improvement, Jurel valued the advice from Pant, "Rishabh bhaiya is a senior player, and he guided me on stance and foot movement, which I've been practicing off the field with the help of (T) Dilip sir, our fielding coach."
