Dhruv Jurel Dedicates Maiden Test Century to Indian Army

Ahmedabad, Oct 3 (PTI) – In a heartwarming gesture, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel dedicated his maiden Test century against the West Indies to the Indian Army, expressing his immense admiration for their bravery on the battlefield.

On the second day of the opening Test, Jurel showcased an impressive performance, scoring a well-crafted 125, propelling India to a commanding 448 for five at stumps. His innings followed remarkable centuries by established players KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja.

Apart from his stellar batting display, the 24-year-old Jurel captivated the audience with his unique celebration after both his half-century and century. His salute was a heartfelt tribute to the Indian Army and his father, a veteran of the Kargil War.

"The salute upon reaching my fifty was for my father, but for the hundred, it carried a deeper meaning," Jurel shared. "I've always been closely connected to the Indian Army, having witnessed my father's journey from childhood."

He emphasized the stark difference between cricket and the battlefield, stating, "What we do on the cricket field and what they do on the battlefield is incomparable. I'll forever hold them in high regard, and whatever I achieve in the future will be dedicated to them."

Jurel concluded by saying, "I wish to honor the Indian Army for their dedication and sacrifices. Having observed their lives up close, I'm deeply fascinated by their unwavering commitment. This achievement is a tribute to those who truly deserve it."
