CWG: Sakshi Malik schools her critics, reminds world of her class with Gold in Birmingham

Sakshi Malik pinned her opponent down and earned India the ultimate glory through a victory by fall.

A comeback like no other! India's Sakshi Malik is back with a bang!

She may have gone missing after her Olympic Bronze in 2016, but in Birmingham, we witnessed the Sakshi Malik from her golden years!

Trailing 0-4 in the final, she turned the match on its head in one single move! Sakshi took her opponent by surprise and in a moment's notice, it was all over for Canada’s Ana Gonzalez, who just didn’t know what hit her!

The comeback queen had done it. She had pinned her opponent down and earned India the ultimate glory through a victory by fall.

That moment in the contest was a microcosm in the life of Sakshi Malik.

Injury and form had both played their part when she couldn’t even qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.

However, India’s first-ever female wrestler to win an Olympic medal wasn’t just going to give up on her dreams that easily. She wanted to fight back, she wanted to bring glory to the nation!

And she did exactly that at Birmingham 2022.

In that moment, when she was 0-4 down, when the majority had written her off, Sakshi Malik showed why she’s just not ready to give up.

And she proved to us why we as a nation cannot give up on her as well.
