CWG: Indian women’s cricket reach final after edging England in Edgbaston thriller

The Women in Blue kept their nerves in a thrilling finish to ensure India qualify for the Gold medal match on Sunday.

The Indian women’s cricket team defeated hosts England to reach the final at the Commonwealth Games.

The Women in Blue kept their nerves in a thrilling finish to ensure India qualify for the Gold medal match on Sunday.

Having won the toss and opting to bat, Harmanpreet Kaur’s side got off to a flier with opener Smriti Mandhana smashing 61 off 32 balls. Mandana’s wicket though put a halt on the scoring rate.

It was India’s No. 3 Jemimah Rodriques, who finished with an unbeaten 44 off 31 to help her side past the 160-run mark.

England also started well and at one point, they were on track to chase it down before Danielle Wyatt’s wicket shifted the momentum.

Captain Nat Sciver was unable to find the boundaries and while Amy Jones threatened to take the game away from India, her runout in the 18th over once again put India in the ascendancy.

Sciver then got run out in the next over and that was the final nail in the coffin for England. The hosts fell 4 runs short in the end, sending India through to the final.
