BSF Honors Woman Constable Shivani with Rare Promotion

New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) The Border Security Force (BSF) has honored one of its own with a rare out-of-turn promotion, elevating woman constable Shivani to the rank of head constable just five months into her service. This accolade comes in recognition of her exemplary performance in the World Wushu Championship, 2025, where she secured a silver medal.

At a ceremony held on Thursday at a BSF camp, Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary personally pinned the new rank insignia onto 21-year-old Shivani's Khaki uniform. The achievement was celebrated by the BSF, underscoring the organization's support for its personnel who shine on international platforms.

Shivani's success at the 17th World Wushu Championship, which took place in August-September in Brazil, was highlighted by a BSF spokesperson. "This out-of-turn promotion to head constable was granted to Shivani for her remarkable accomplishments at the championship," the spokesperson noted.

In what is typically a 15 to 18-year journey for most BSF constables to achieve such a promotion, Shivani’s swift rise is testament to her talent and dedication. The BSF secured necessary relaxations and permissions from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) to effect this promotion.

Notably, earlier in July, Constable Anuj similarly received an out-of-turn promotion for his outstanding performance in the 10th Sanda World Wushu Championship in China.

The BSF, with its strength of approximately 2.7 lakh personnel, is primarily responsible for safeguarding India's borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, in addition to handling various internal security roles.
