Brazil Dominates Uruguay, Reaches Copa America Femenina Final

Quito, Ecuador (AP) – On Tuesday, defending champions Brazil secured their place in the Copa America Femenina final for the fifth consecutive tournament with a commanding 5-1 victory over Uruguay. The Brazilians made a strong start, netting three goals in the first 30 minutes. Amanda Gutierres opened the scoring in the 11th minute, with Giovana Queiroz quickly scoring another two minutes later. Marta, a six-time player of the year, extended the lead by converting a penalty in the 27th minute. Gutierres continued her impressive performance, scoring again in the 65th minute from a free kick, bringing her tournament tally to five goals. She currently trails only Paraguay’s Claudia Martinez, who has scored six goals. Dudinha wrapped up the scoring for Brazil in the 86th minute. Brazil will face Colombia in the final next Saturday after Colombia triumphed over Argentina 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Monday. The championship match will be held at Estadio Rodrigo Paz Delgado in Quito. This will be a rematch of the 2022 Copa America Femenina final, which Brazil won 1-0 in Colombia. Marta, at 39 years old, has an illustrious career with 120 goals in 205 appearances for Brazil. The Brazilian women’s team is highly regarded in South America, having won eight of the nine Copa America editions. They have also achieved runner-up status at the World Cup in 2007 and reached the Olympic final three times, including the Paris 2024 Games, where they were bested by the US.
