Assam Prepares for International Cricket Events with Infrastructure Ready

Guwahati, Aug 27: Assam’s Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Nandita Garlosa, has undertaken a review of the preparations for two forthcoming international cricket events slated to take place in Guwahati. The events in question are the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup and the second test series between India and South Africa, scheduled for October and November, respectively.

On Tuesday night, a meeting was convened, presided over by Garlosa. It included key participants such as Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, officials from the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), and senior figures from the state's sports department. This 13th edition of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, marking Guwahati as a notable venue for the first time.

BCCI Secretary Saikia revealed that four matches of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 are set to take place at the ACA Barsapara Cricket Stadium on September 30, October 3, 7, and 10. The tournament’s opening ceremony and the inaugural match, featuring India against Sri Lanka, will also unfold in Guwahati under the auspices of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

All matches will follow a 50-over format, with timings from 3.30 PM to 11.30 PM, and there’s a possibility that one of the semifinal matches could be hosted in either Guwahati or Colombo on October 29. Furthermore, the second test series between India and South Africa is scheduled to kick off in Guwahati on November 22. Saikia also hinted at a T20 league match set for January-February of the coming year.

Chief Secretary Kota stated that all units of the Public Works Department (PWD) have been tasked with ensuring top-tier infrastructure and facilities are in place. Dedicated teams from both PWD and Traffic Police will be deployed to handle all logistics related to the events. Additionally, every concerned department has been directed to draft comprehensive plans and execute their delegated responsibilities in a timely manner to ensure the seamless conduct of these esteemed events.
