Arun Lal Advocates for On-Field Experiences Over Screen Time at SAI Conclave

In a thought-provoking conclave organized by the Sports Authority of India's regional center in Kolkata, former Indian cricketer Arun Lal expressed his concerns regarding the increasing prevalence of screen time among youngsters, which he believes is eclipsing the essential formative experiences provided by playground activities. This event was part of the National Sports Day celebrations, observed countrywide.

During the session titled 'Grassroots to Global Podiums: India's Road to 2036,' Lal highlighted the crucial role that grassroots sports play in laying the foundation for India's Olympic aspirations. He passionately urged children to prioritize time spent on playing fields over engagement with phones.

Other panelists, including SAI Regional Director Amar Jyoti, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need to foster a culture of sports within the school environment. The discussion also encompassed insights about the impending National Sports Governance Act, slated for full implementation by early next year.

The Kolkata facility, covering six states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is the largest regional center of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The three-day event, organized to mark National Sports Day, included various activities, notably cycling events, celebrating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on August 29.

This year, the observance was expanded to a wider festival, reflecting on the importance of nurturing young sporting talent from an early age to strengthen India's position on global sporting platforms.
