Anshul Kamboj Set for Debut as Injuries Shake Indian Squad

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Anshul Kamboj's extensive experience in first-class cricket is expected to serve him well, according to senior Indian pacers Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. This comes after the 24-year-old was announced to make his debut in the fourth Test against England at Manchester. Kamboj, previously part of the India A squad before the commencement of the five-Test series, was called up after fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep suffered injuries and were ruled out of the Manchester Test. Ishant Sharma, speaking with PTI Videos at a Pickle Pros event, remarked, "He will do well since he has performed in First-Class cricket, and anyone with a solid First-Class record tends to translate that success to the national team." He dismissed the notion that excelling in First-Class cricket is easy, emphasizing its challenges. Bhuvneshwar Kumar cautioned Kamboj about the pressures of a debut match for India. "I hope he does well because the debut match is always special, and there's pressure involved. It's important to stay composed," said Bhuvneshwar. He noted Kamboj's previous success in domestic cricket and the IPL, wishing him luck. Ishant also addressed the absence of Rishabh Pant, injured for the rest of the series. "It's a significant setback losing a player like Pant for up to six weeks," he stated. "However, sports continue, and though injuries are tough, they offer others a chance to step up." Bhuvneshwar added, "Injuries are unfortunate, but they happen. I wish Rishabh a speedy recovery." Ishant endorsed the idea that Shubman Gill's captaincy will benefit from experience. "He's young, and the more Tests he captains, the more he'll learn about leadership," said Ishant, urging support for Gill in his new role. Bhuvneshwar highlighted Mohammed Siraj's immense contribution to Indian cricket, describing him as a "bowling machine." He called on the media to acknowledge Siraj's consistent performances, underscoring the importance of giving credit where it's due.
