The Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen, they say, is sturdier than time! That’s not just a marketing gimmick, though, since the G-Wagen really lives up to the claim. In its 45 years of existence, the G-Wagen has gone from fighting wars to gracing the red carpet. And it is without a doubt, Mercedes’ most desirable SUV on the market today.

However, since its inception, the G-Wagen hasn’t changed all that much. There have only been two generations of the G-Class until now. And while there’s an all-electric version now, its essence hasn’t changed much.

The question is, how has it made so far with such little change? What makes it relevant after all these years? We drive the G 400d version of the iconic off-roader to get an idea.
