UNESCO adds 'Garba' of Gujarat to Intangible Cultural Heritage list

Garba, a traditional dance form originated from the Indian state of Gujarat, has been included in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

After the announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said "Garba inspires us to preserve and promote our heritage for future generations".

The head of the evaluation body of the committee described Garba as a "ritualistic and devotional dance performed during the Hindu festival of Navaratri, dedicated to honouring the feminine energy."

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendera Patel also shared a post on X, terming Garba's addition to the list as a "proud moment for Gujarat and India".

Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy also shared a post on the same, saying that the listing was a testimony to the "tireless efforts of this government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to showcase our rich culture, traditions and heritage to the world".
