During the sacred month of Sawan, many devotees fast every Monday to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. If you're a diabetic patient and planning to fast, keep these tips in mind to manage your blood sugar levels and maintain a healthy fasting season.

Useful Tips for Diabetics While Fasting:

  • To stay healthy while fasting, regularly monitor your blood sugar levels and ensure your diet includes the right balance of carbs, fiber, and protein. Additionally, make sure you get adequate sleep.
  • Buckwheat flour (kuttu ka atta) or water chestnut flour (singhada ka atta) are healthier options to consume during fasting.
  • Instead of eating deep-fried pakodas (fritters), opt for plain roti made from these flours. Fried foods can increase blood sugar levels.
  • Diabetic patients can consume khichdi or kheer made from Barnyard millet (Sama rice).
  • Petha (wax gourd) or lauki (bottle gourd) can also be eaten during fasts, but avoid adding sugar or jaggery to these preparations.

Skipping Blood Sugar Checks: Regular monitoring is crucial to manage levels effectively.

Consuming Fried Foods: Fried items can spike blood sugar levels.
High-Sugar Foods:
Avoid sweets, sugary drinks, and foods with added sugars.
Heavy Carbohydrates:
Limit intake of high-carb foods that can cause blood sugar fluctuations.
Caffeinated Beverages:
Excessive caffeine can lead to dehydration and impact blood sugar control.
Inadequate Hydration:
Stay well-hydrated to prevent blood sugar imbalances.
