Sawan 2024: Know all about this highly auspicious month and tips to keep in mind while fasting

Sawan, also known as Shravan, is the fifth month of the Hindu lunar calendar, typically occurring in July and August. This year, Sawan will begin on Monday, July 22nd, and will end on August 19th.

It is considered highly auspicious, with many Hindus observing fasts and engaging in devotional practices, especially in worship of Lord Shiva. The month is marked by the arrival of the monsoon, bringing lush greenery and revitalizing the environment.

During this month, devotees who fast should stay hydrated with water and light fluids. Eat a balanced diet of fruits, nuts, and dairy, and avoid heavy or spicy foods. Ensure adequate rest and focus on prayer and meditation. Try to avoid caffeine and carbonated drinks, which can cause dehydration.

Devotees often participate in religious rituals, including special pujas and fasting, particularly on Mondays, which are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Fasting practices during Sawan are meant to purify the body and mind, and devotees consume simple, vegetarian meals.

Tips to eat healthy during a fast

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and include hydrating foods like cucumbers and melons.

Eat Balanced Meals: Incorporate a mix of fruits, nuts, and dairy for essential nutrients.

Opt for Light Foods: Choose easily digestible foods like yogurt and smoothies to avoid heaviness.
Avoid Processed Foods:
Steer clear of sugary or oily snacks that can lead to energy crashes.

Monitor Portion Sizes: Eat moderate portions to maintain energy without feeling overly full.

Include Fiber: Add fruits and vegetables for fiber to aid digestion and keep you full longer.

Also watch: This is what happens to your body if you give up non-veg food for sometime, know all about it
