Overeating does not lead to obesity; Science has a thing or two to say!

We are living in a world where we are surrounded by heavily marketed, highly palatable cheap processed foods that make us consume more calories than we need. And this imbalance is further exacerbated by our sedentary lifestyle.

Researchers have developed a new scientific method called the carbohydrates-insulin model to study the reason behind the increasing cases of obesity. The carbohydrate-insulin model makes a bold claim - overeating isn't the main cause of obesity.

Excessive consumption of foods with a high processed, rapidly digestible carbohydrate content is a major cause behind the current rise in obesity across the world. These foods cause hormonal responses that fundamentally change our metabolism, driving fat storage, weight gain, and obesity. The authors of the study, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, talk about more effective, long-lasting weight management strategies to focus on instead.

Rather than urging people to eat less, the carbohydrate-insulin model suggests another path that focuses more on 'what' we eat. Reducing consumption of rapidly digestible carbohydrates will eventually help us store our body fat to convert into energy, without feeling hungry for longer durations.
